Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi ladies!
I was just wondering if any of you have used PLL in 1st grade? I was thinking on using PLL for 1-4 and mixing in LOG. If any of you have done this how did it work? Thanks gals!

hmm, I think 1st would be a bit young, even with the lessons spread out. my oldest dd is 6, nearly 7 and it might be a bit much writing for her. I started the boy right above her in age for 3rd with this and we still spread the lessons out for him.

Honestly? I'd be okay with not using anything for 1st grade other than seton or chc. (pending child's learning needs/style)

just my thoughts, YOU know YOUR dd best!

Martha,
Thanks for your quick response! I was wondering the same thing, but thought of maybe doing some things orally. Do you think this would work? My ds does pretty well with oral work so far, but of course he is only 5 so who knows how long that will last! I guess I will just get the book and look through it to see what I think.( I have only seen sample so far) I am going to be purchasing our books for next year pretty soon with our income tax refund. I am feeling a little overwhemled right now with all of the choices out there! I really appreciate your reply, it will give me something to think about! God bless you and your beautiful family!

Some of it is actually intended to be oral, but some of it would be difficult to get anything out of if done orally. For example, the dictation exercises and letter writing and the selections to be memorized. And several (most?) of those selections I think would be very difficult for a 1st grader to memorize, both due to wording and length.

I really do not want to discourage you from purchasing PLL, because I happen to think it's great. I'd just hate you to get it and get frustrated or burnt out.

Again, YOU know best and I may be only projecting my own past mistakes.

We are using PLL with my 2nd grade, just turned 8 DS. I think it may be too difficult for a first grade or 6yr old, unless the child is gifted in this area or something. This is all just my humble opinion, of course, but there are many assignments where the child is told to read something and write his account, he is to read and memorize poems, etc...grant it you can help out more and do alot more orally, etc...which we already do! My Ds does fine with this but I am helping more than I think is intended. We are on lesson 48 currently and he loves to do it, but as I said it takes alot of tweeking on my part as he is not an independant reader yet, getting there though! Anyway hope this helps!
