I've recently started back with daily narration and I have a 7 year old who has a fairly short attention span. I was wondering what to use with her for her oral narrations - something not too long and simple to help 'stretch' her concentration and narration ability.
Well I've found the perfect thing in my bookcase - The Angel Food Series - there are 4 volumes all up with about 30 stories to a volume. They a beautiful little Catholic stories with a lovely moral to them and so not only are they just the right story of reading for my daughter they are also a Catechism lesson as well.
I'd love to hear other mother's recommendations of good books for oral narration for any age, whether they are Catholic or really good literature.

How wonderful. I'll have to check them out. Are they good for teaching character too? I've been looking for stories that teach the catechism for my little ones but also stories on how to behave with nice manners, kind words, cooperativeness, etc.
Thanks!

We are reading through the books written by Mary Ann Windeatt, which are published by TAN.
I am so impressed with the stories. My ds sits on the edge of his seat while I am reading and always begs for another chapter. I find myself wanting to read a head just to see what happens, too!
Each chapter is a good amount to narrate which is what we do rather informally.
I really can't say enough about how much I like these books.

P.S. AussieAnnie...do the Angle Food books ever go on sale? Or is this pretty much the standard price?

Marianne, they are EXCELLENT for teaching character, their main purpose!
No Betsy, I have never seen a Neumann Press book on sale (I could be wrong, just never seen it) they are very expensive books because of their superior binding, paper and quality HB covers.

We've used these books for read-alouds. Awesome stories that definitely teach good character and the kids love them. They still talk about the stories.

We love the Once Upon a Time Saints and More Once Upon a Time Saints for narrations with the younger crowd. It works nicely to use them with the younger ones as an introduction the TAN books too, then they have some context and are more willing to sit through the longer read-alouds.

There are several great books from CHC that would accomplish this. How about Devotional Stories, volumes I and II?
