I'm curious about BraveWriter. Can someone explain the program to me? We currently use IEW and while we like the program, sometimes it can be too much.

Thanks so much,
Lisa

Lisa,

BraveWriter was discussed in this forum quite a bit some months ago. Below is the link to that thread. Maybe you could skim over it and then ask away if something's unclear?

Thanks Janette for the response and link. That's an incredible website!

Can anyone give me an idea of where to start with BraveWriter? My kids are 9 and 11 and we used IEW last year only. I was thinking of buying The Writer's Jungle and subscribing to The Arrow. What do you think?

Forgot to ask....do I need to supplement with any other Language Arts program?

Blessings,
Lisa

Hi, Lisa,

I had both The Writer's Jungle and The Arrow at the same time, but they work independent of one another.

Love them both. The Arrow helped me to get the hang of copywork/dictation. TWJ reminded me to be my kids' cheerleader. The author is very responsive to e-mails.

Lisa,
I have a friend who really recommends IEW. Were you not happy with it?
Janette,
Thanks for the link to the thread, I really poured over it too. Lots of good comments.
I have really been debating about TWJ, to be honest the cost concerns me. After we change from the currency rate it is a lot.
What I have been thinking is that I'll print out some ideas from the site, use them and see if the children are responsive and then decide. I hate it when you get enthusiastic, but a book and the children don't like it.

Erin,

Julie's site really does reflect the "feel" of TWJ. I think that it's a great idea to print out some of her ideas to try out first. I did buy TWJ at the end of this past school year, so I haven't really started using it with the kids yet. I've read through a lot of it, though, and think that it will be a great reminder and support in executing a CM lifestyle. Some people may not need that extra support -- I do! Julie also offers online classes of some sort. We haven't taken them, but others here have. I don't know if these could substitute for TWJ or if they'd be less expensive, but they might be worth looking into if your kids like the stuff you print out.

Erin,

IEW isn't a bad program at all. For us it was a bit too structured and rigid and sometimes hard to implement. I may use some of the ideas in the future but I'm more drawn to the CM lifestyle.

Hope that helps,
Lisa

Lissa and Janette,
Yeah your comments do help. It was what I was thinking was the case about them both but wasn't 100 percent sure.

Janette
I never felt I needed the support before but with the children getting a litttle older or maybe the topic I'm feeling I do to. also previously I have been able to make up ideas myself, but I'm finding with more children it gets harder to have the time to think up ideas, and you start thinking 'why reinvent the wheel?'

Thanks
