Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone ever used these together? My dd who will be in Grade 2 needs some extra phonics practice, so I got Explode the Code to use this coming school year. Would it be too redundant to continue with CHC's My Catholic Speller (we used it last year for Grade 1, and she enjoyed it). Any thought here? Thanks in advance and blessings!

Fwiw, Sonlight coordinates their ETC with more natural practices into their 1st-3rd grade LA. The new LA is very Ruth Beechick/Charlotte Mason. I have the new LA 1 and I like it. A dear friend who schools similarly has LA 2 and likes it too. I like that the word study/spelling is keyed to the same words they are using in ETC that week. The copywork is based on their phonics readers, which I usually use alongside LSLF. I skip any assignments that feel stupid with no regrets.

I'm not a fan of LOG (my kids didn't retain the information the way they do with ILL and later on Easy Grammar). I do like CHC's Catholic spellers but I don't use them until after we have finished with ETC book 6 (we don't use the 1/2 books).

hope this helps!

They'll work great together, and it won't be overkill. We used all the Explode the Code books and I felt they covered many phonics concepts that my kids wouldn't have gotten with using just the CHC materials.

I use them both. I think the speller needs supplementing and I didn't find much overlap. Besides, my younger kids can't get enough of workbooks!
