Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am getting all stressed out trying to decide what writing to do next year. I feel we did not do enough CM/creative stuff this year. Now for next year I am scared of the same thing happening.

For 3rd Grade - is it enough to do dictation, copywork and narrations, with some Bravewriter - or do I need to start something formal such as Classical Writing/IEW?

For 6th Grade - can I also do dictation, copywork, narrations and maybe Lingua Mater. Or again, is it necessary to start some kind of formal writing program.

Thanks for any help - I am finding the writing plan the hardest to do for next year. And I want it to be an important part of each school day.

With my fourth grader next year, here's my plan...CM style copywork, dictation, etc..from Intermediate Language Lessons, Harp and Laurel Wreath, Scripture, or reading...and daily writing. I am going to create a list of topics related to the month's reading and liturgical studies. He can choose one or write about something he chooses. The first two days he will pre-write (brainstorm and outline) two different topics...the third day we will choose one to create a rough draft of a paragraph, the fourth day we will work on revisions together and he will create his final draft, type it and print it to be placed in a writing binder.
I'm hoping this will instill the writing process in his mind as well as make the structure of a good paragraph second nature. If that seems to happen quickly, I may switch to writing of a more creative nature for the second half of the school year.
Don't know if this will work for someone else, but for me it saves adding another structured curriculum for something I feel we can do in a much more relaxed way at this age.

Thanks Colleen for the reply. I discussed it with my husband last night (I was really getting a headache over it!) - and I have decided that the CM style is fine for the twins - I too will use the Harp and the Laurel Wreath, Primary Language Lessons and also topics related to the Liturgical Year or rabbit trail we are on.

For dd I will do much of the same but I think I will buy Lingua Mater and do it over 2 years.

I too feel that I really do not want a structured curriculum for writing - at least at this stage.
