Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone been using Karen Andreola's new(ish) book Story Starters? We have been using Margot Davidson's Stories With A View for 4th and 5th graders and Lingua Mater for 6th,7th grade and have had great success with both. We are ready for more and wondering if Story Starters would be a another good resource?

Hi, Helene ...

I haven't used this, so can't offer an opinion. Just thought I'd bump it up, and see if anyone who has used it perhaps just missed this post ...

Anyone?

Thank you Karen and Erin! Since I have posted this my copy ofStory Starters came in the mail. So now I'm in the same boat as Erin. But I am also wondering....what other ways do get your children to start writing? These story starters seem good, but I know that some of my children would be put off by it because they wouldn't like to write someone else's story. They want to come up with ALL the ideas. For these kids I simply give them an art book. They can pick a Masterpiece and write a story about what is going on in the picture or about the artist and why he painted it, etc. Sometimes I have them write a narration of something they just read. But I have one son who just seems to be uninspired no matter what. His writing is short and drab and I know he can do better. I am trying to think of other ways to get him going.
