I'd like to find something that lasts about a semester for 9th grade grammar that is high school level, and I want this to be the last year we study grammar formally.

My favorite program is Easy Grammar, but its a long year.

Any suggestions?

Hi, Books --

Have you looked into Warriners? My husband (a public high school English teacher) likes Warriners quite a bit. Probably the Third Course book, but it depends on where your child is in grammar.

I think Seton and MODG use Third Course in 9th grade. You could Google about it and take a look at the varying levels. You can find used copies all over the place.

I hope this helps a bit!

I like Warriner's too, and Trip is using the new version in 9th grade at school as well. It can be used in a pick-and-choose method, so you can make up your own course, studying just the chapters and exercises you need to cover, as you see fit.

Warriner's is great...the book makes a good reference to keep for college and beyond. My friend borrowed it to study for his CLEP English exam...and passed.

We are using Grammar Plus... and like it (we used Warriner's last year, my old copy!).

I like Warriner's but I wouldn't leave grammar until having completed the last book of the Stewart Writing Program.

This book teaches excellent, varied, sentence construction.

I've never seen a Warriner's book...Doesn't it have a lot more than just grammar in it? Elizabeth, do you use the rest of the Stewart Program? It looks like there is a 9th-10th grade level grammar program (book 2). I like Explode the Code, so I'm willing to give EPS a chance on something else if it comes at all recommended.
