Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

GRRRRRRR!

I just wrote a post.......and this is what happened!!!

"Your message did not contain a valid subject heading and/or message body."

it did not post my message......and deleted the whole thing.

all I did was respond to a recent post.......like have been all week........grrrrrr

this is one of the reasons I prefer the email version........I never lost a post!!

anything to keep this from happening again, Tim?

I will try to remain calm

Chari-

You are supposed to get an error message before the post is submitted, telling you that you have left either the subject or body blank and giving you the opportunity to correct it. However, if you are using an older browser that does not support JavaScript, or you have turned off JavaScript through your browser's configuration, you will not receive the warning.

In all likelihood, you were probably trying to post a new topic and simply forgot to type in a Subject (instead, going straight to the body). Since I am sure you will not be the last to make this mistake, I have modified the code so that it will allow the posting of a new message with no subject. For a placeholder, I simply used "NO SUBJECT." After posting, when the author realizes the mistake, he/she can edit the post and change the subject to something more fitting.

Sorry for the frustration. I am on your side here. We will just have to keep plugging along and identifying these little annoyances as they come up and work to resolve them.

I had this happen, and my complaint is when you hit "back" on the browser my text that I typed is no longer there. Is that a Javascript function? Is there a way that it could still stay there if I hit "back"?

this was caused by page caching being turned off. i have changed that, but if it becomes apparent that there is a good reason for not caching the pages, i will return it to the original behavior.

Hi Tim,

I hate to bother you with this, but just wanted you to know that a post I attempted to send in the history forum was "eaten." I filled out the post as usual in response to the Middle Ages thread, but when I hit send, I received a message saying, "message couldn't post because it lacked a subject heading," and it was gone.

Very strange, because nothing was different about the way I'd responded, and it was not a new post, so it shouldn't have needed a new subject.

Thanks again for all your help!

Alice-

Were you using the Post Reply "area" at the bottom of the page of posts...or did you click the "post reply" button at the top of the page?

Hi Tim,

I hit the "Post Reply" button underneath the editing box (bottom left). Too bad I didn't try to hit the "back" button. It never even occurred to me.

My computer has been doing funny things since our unsuccessful attempt to upgrade windows two or three days ago. The problem may very well be related to that.

Thanks again.

okay. just an FYI (and this goes for everyone), whenever you experience a problem posting like this, try using the Back button on your browser to see if your text is still in the edit box. if so, you can try to post it again.
