Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have been doing this (clicking on Active Topics) the last few times and a couple things keep coming up.
First, after I've clicked on and read 2 or 3 of the forums that are listed on Active Topics, then when I go back to that page to see what else is active, it says "no new topics since 10:27 pm" etc. which is when I first clicked on Active topics. I've tried both reclicking Active Topics (definitely doesn't work) or just hitting BAck in my browser, which usually lets me go back and select one more forum, but then when I try it again, I get that type of message. Just now when I did this, I re-set the active topic dropdown to 1 week, and it showed no new posts?

Second, if I'm interrupted reading the new stuff, and come back later, there is no way for it to show me which threads I, personally, have read, only which posts are new, correct? B/c I'm getting very confused on what's new, what I've read, etc.

Am I missing something?

Karen:

I know the answer to this one, only becuase I keep doing it!

When you've read the topic, click on "Active Topics" again at the top of the page, don't hit "back" or anyother button. This seems to fix the problem. Also, you can change the setting as far as "how far back" to look, but I can't ever remember when I've last looked

Hope this helps!

Karen-

the problem you are experiencing with the Active Topics page is caused by a session timeout. when you log in, your last login time is updated to the current time, and a 20 minute timer is started. every time you access a page on the site within that 20 minute window, the timer is restarted. if 20 minutes elapses before you access another page, then your session times out (this can happen while reading a long page or composing a reply).

the next time you try to access a page after your session has timed out, you are automatically logged in again and your last login time is updated again to the current time, and the Active Topics page no longer shows all of the topics that it did before.

a simple solution to this problem (from the user perspective) is to bring up the Active Topics page, then right click the topic you want to read and select "Open in New Window." this will keep your original Active Topics window open, even if your session times out.

you are correct on your second point. i plan to research the behavior of the envelope icons (next to the forum names on the homepage) to see exactly how the forum software determines which icon to use. sometimes, it doesn't appear to function as you would expect.

OK, thanks for the explanations. i will use the "new window" solution. I think it must be timing out b/c I'm often doing multiple things online at once, as well as getting distracted by kids, etc.!
