Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This morning my daughter took the dog out and found a dead fawn curled up next to our house. We think it was coming close to the house for warmth and shelter from the cold, but we can see that one of its legs broke through the ice and snow. It seems like it got stuck and froze to death on top of my mint patch. We know things like this happen, but it's so sad to see this beautiful young creature all curled up there, looking like it's sound asleep. (It's not a tiny fawn, but looks one born early last summer; it's small, but not spotted.)

Peace,
Nancy

Nancy -

I'm so sad reading your post and imagining that little deer.

Oh, Nancy, that is a sad discovery. Your poor daughter.

Oh, that is so sad. And so hard for little ones to see. How is your daughter taking it?

We've all been crying off and on. Later this afternoon my ds 17 and his friend put the fawn on a plastic trash bag and carried her into the woods, where they covered her with some brush and snow. It turns out she hadn't gotten her leg stuck, but had just settled herself down to sleep. We just wish we had noticed her sooner or last night or whenever she came up near the house so that we could have taken her to the wildlife rescue place.

Peace,
Nancy
