Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just got this e-mail from Jason:

Take your children...
TO MARS!

Dr. Robert Ballard and a team of scientists will take you and your children on an adventure to explore the Mysteries of Earth and Mars. Working with renowned partner organizations such as NASA, as well as research and academic institutions around the world, your children will conduct investigations and make discoveries that will help unravel the Mysteries of Earth and Mars.

JASON At-Home provides homeschooling families with all the curriculum and resources they need to conduct their own exploration and investigation of Mars!

The JASON At-Home program includes curriculum materials for both parents and children, which are aligned to National Science Standards. Additionally, JASON At-Home familiars receive an introductory video, membership to an online gated community with digital labs, journals and online chats with researchers, maps and other printed materials, as well as access to the award-winning JASON content! See what other homeschooling families are saying about their JASON experience!

Bring the thrill of discovery to your children by ordering today!

The JASON At-Home program for Mysteries of Earth and Mars is only $125 and serves one adult and up to 5 children. Other topics are also available, including Rainforests, Shore to Sea, and Wetlands. Please visit our online store to learn more!

here's the Url: Jason at Home

I have dones this Project for years, and it is wonderful, though (FYI) evolutionary, if that is an issue for your family.

Macbeth,
What ages is this geared to? How does it work?
Is there a schedule or assignments to turn in or do you do it at your own pace? I have a soon to be 8 boy that will love the possibility of exploring Mars.

Hey Natalia...

for home use, the Jason project does not have you turn in anything, and it is self paced. It is best for middle school (5-9 grade) students, though older and younger kids will get quite a bit out of it, especially the literature parts!

8 might be a bit young for the whole program, but you can re-use the written material year after year. The only thing you won't get for the next years is the interactive web site (whether it's worth is or not is a matter of opinion ). YOu can continue to access the videos year after year, as far as I know. I think the NG channel also broadcasts live during the satellite (sp??) hook-up week, which is usually in late winter.

So, for your money, you get 200 or so three hole punched pages of curriculum, with maps, lessons, Q and A, labs, etc. You also get an introductory video, and web access. Online are private forums for teachers, hsers, and kids (though you might want to come here for discussion, as the ps kids online are often silly, for lack of a more polite word ).

To take a peek at the videos from past Jason Projects, try EDS-Jason XIV. The video presentations are 1 hour long. (This is a link for general lesson videos; scroll to the bottom for the sat-uplink "expedition video.")

For high school students, there are actual Argonaught opportunities, and every year one or two homeschoolers become student argonaughts who are chosen to participate.

If you are near a "PIN site" you can actually go to a central location for the sat hook-up, and use the remote control equipment and possibly talk with the argonaughts.

Sorry about the spelling...
