Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

That's how I feel right now! I'm doing Christian Kids Explore Biology with my children and they are supposed to make flashcards out of the Animal Kingdom Phyla. But I notice fish are not listed. So, I have searched the internet and all my books, including the trusty Handbook of Nature Study and cannot find a simple outline of the Animalia Kingdom with the names and examples of the phyllum. The phyllum that our science book had under Animalia Kingdom are: Annelida, Arthropoda, Chordata, Echinodermata, Mollusca, Nematoda, Cnidaria, and Porifera.

I've even searched our encyclopedia to no avail. Even though I have a Bachelors of Science in Nursing, it has not helped me with this!! Are there any websites that can help me with this? Thanks so much!!

MacBeth!!!

My brain is so fried!! Thank you. It didn't list fish, so I was stumped!

Do you know of a website that has this info laid out in a chart from or an outline form? How come some websites list many more phyllum than these?   I can figure out that under chordata you have the subphyllum of fish, birds, amphibians, reptiles, but there are some other weird names that don't look familiar. This is becoming more complicated than it needs to be!

I need help finding a simple explanation of the Kingdom and phyllum divisions. Holler if you know where to guide me!

No problem, Ana!

I was so stunned when I went to college and found that Cladistics had changed drastically since I had take bio in 9th grade. It's still changing, of course, so it's a hard topic with which to keep up.

BTW, I have answered this very same question for some very seasoned naturalists. When they show you a picture of a chordate, it's almost always a sea squirt larva...and rarely a fish. It's a bit counter-intuitive to think they are related.
