Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK, I'm stumped. We tried out Civil Air Patrol this evening (it combines aeronatical ed., search and rescue, and Air Force-style military cadet activities). My son really didn't like drilling and saluting. (I can't entirely blame him, honestly, but he did grow up in a military family...can't figure out why this all surprised him... )

So...he still wants to get involved in an aviation studies program, just not a military one. Has anyone done anything like this?

Thanks!

It's not cheap, but how about some basic flying lessons?

How old is your son? Have you considered EAA Young Eagles? It's good for ages 8-17. Here's a list of EAA Chapter-sponsored Young Eagle events.

The Aeroscholar Course "students who successfully complete the Aviation Science Fundamentals and Advanced Aviation Science courses are authorized to take the FAA private pilot knowledge test. Enrollment also includes an EAA student membership, and the courses provide opportunities for non-virtual experiences, such as taking a flight lesson, visiting a weather station, or attending an EAA Chapter meeting." Good for 5 college credits, as well as high school credits.

EAA info, locate a Chapter near you, they might be holding a Fly-in soon, Mmmmm pancakes and jet fuel, just what one needs in the morning!
