Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I saw this book in a catalogue yesterday and was intrigued:   The Naming of Names by Anna Pavord. It seems to be botanical history, tracing the development of plant classifcation from the ancient Greeks to the 17th century. Anyone seen this book? MacBeth?? Amazon UK had it packaged with another interesting looking botanical book - The Secret Life of Trees: How They Live and Why They Matter by Colin Tudge. Looks as though it is not yet published in the US but is due out in October under the title The Tree: a Natural History of What Trees Are, How They Live and Why They Matter.

I haven't, but it sounds interesting. I'll check it out.
