Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This an example of taking at least 5 minutes to decide which forum to put this topic -- Planning, Art, or Science?

I'm leading a nature club, and while I am planning on having sketchbooks to journal and try our hand at drybrush watercolor, I would like to have some notebook pages and do some "Book of Firsts". So I'm probably complicating it, but I think a natural journal and a binder. Last year I had all these loose pages and never made a binder. Not everyone in our nature club is going to buy supplies, but I would like to offer a page or two if it's on subject.

Here's my question. What kind of weight paper or what type of paper would be good for drawing, sketching and perhaps drybrush that can go into a printer or copier? Copier weight is just too thin. If someone has already figured this out for me, I'd be much obliged!

I wouldn't go any lighter than 70 lb paper, Jenn. That's generally a good cardstock, and if you were printing something to share with the group, that's what I'd probably do: find a decent cardstock.

My favorite is Wausau 90 lb cardstock in light ivory. I just think the Ivory is easier on the eyes than white, but white would be fine, too.

Hope this is a help.

Really? You think cardstock? I was thinking that was a mite too heavy. But now looking at watercolor paper, mine is 110 lb.

But I have coverstock that is 67 lb. and is pretty heavy.

I like the idea of ivory -- I agree, especially when you're working in the sun.

Jen, I'm sorry. I combined your 90 lb. link with your 70 lb. answer. Teehee. Sorry.

So we do agree somewhat.

I've used 90lb watercolor paper (one sheet at a time) in my hp printer without any problems.

My children have a number of Dover Pictorial Archive coloring books (they provide limited copying rights) and they love photocopying the designs onto watercolor paper to paint.

We use 67 lb for our nature journals and they will go through a printer. 90lb is pretty thick, but really I think you'll just have to handle the different weights and see which ones you like.

Bear in mind that what should be standard isn't always. I buy A LOT of paper for my business (planners, nature notebooks etc.) and the same labelled weights are NOT always the same --it depends on the manufacturer. Wausau paper is usually good.
