Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can anyone give me the names of a few clean, safe and fun to explore beaches near San Diego? I am looking for both sandy/seashell kind and tidepool ones.

Thanks,
Aagot

Absolutely!! :)

Forgive me. I'm not going to give links because my computer is running very slow this evening, but I think you can look these places up easily.

Tide Pools

Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma
There are wonderful tide pools here. I believe you now have to pay to access them as they are part of the monument. Check the tide charts because there is really nothing to see at high tide (besides a beautiful ocean). :)
Up top there is a light house, museum, theater, gift shop, and tons of awesome viewing spots - go on clear day if you can.

Highly, highly recommended for any visitors to San Diego. A weekday will of course be much less crowded.

Beaches

Our favorite beach spot is Torrey Pines State Beach (the south parking lot near the cliffs). It's a state beach so you'll need to pay $10.00 to park (!) unless you can find parking along the street which is hard in the summer. It is clean and family friendly (although I've seen more bikini type bathing suits this summer - hard to avoid, but still.....). I prefer to pay to park in the lot because there is a bathroom and showers right there. The water is rougher than the next beach I will recommnend, but my kids do well there.

La Jolla Shores is a lovely beach that is very popular. The best thing about this beach is that the water is usually very gentle. It can get quite crowded so it may be best to go early or later in the afternoon. Parking can be tricky if the lot is full. No paying for parking here. I prefer to go to this beach after children go back to school as there seems to be a lot unchaperoned teens and a lot of sufers and just a lot of people in the summer. But, if you go in the morning hours, it could be great.

Coronado is very popular as well. The beach is huge, though, and I'm never quite sure where to park. I think there is only one bathroom, so you would want to park near there. And, Coronado is just lovely to drive or walk around. Pricey and touristy, but beautiful.

There are tons of other beaches. In what area will you be staying?

Hope that helps!

Wish you were coming, too, Mary. I missed my homeschooling conference this year! AND, I was in Glenwood Springs the week before your conference. I was thinking, how can I stay a week longer, drive over to Denver, go to your conference, fly home....... !!! :)

Aagot, please let me know if there is any other way I can help with your visit.

I was thinking that right south of La Jolla Shores is the little 'city' of La Jolla which sits on these beautiful cliffs. There are large grassy areas for picnic-ing and lots of paths for walking. Great views. And, there is an area where you could see lots of sea lions, too.
