My son is looking for a good spotting scope for birding (not binoculars) that will work well at powers up to 60 times. He's been thinking about a Konus and a Zhumell. I don't know anything about spotting scopes, but was wondering if anybody here has any suggestions. Thanks.

I wish I could help. I'm curious also as we have contemplated a purchase, too. I know that everyone recommends the reall high end ones and obvioulsy those are going to be better quality. Like you we would need to go on the lower end also and I'm not sure the best quality at those levels.

I don't know personally.. but you might try going into a gun shop and asking them for a recommendation in your price range. They may even have them on hand for you to check out.

To be honest although we live in hunter's paradise, I have never seen a gun shop around here. That might be a good place to go to, though. Thanks for the tip.

well the ones here call themselves "sporting good stores" but when half the store is guns and stuff for guns.. I call them gun shops anyway
