We are including compasses in our studies, and would love instructions on how to read it and how to use it. The one we have has an azimuth reading.

MacBeth recommends this book: Be Expert With Map and Compass: The Complete Orienteering Handbook. It's really nice and quite complete.

The Dangerous Book for Boys, p. 159, Navigation - nice introductory how-to here.

Boys' Life Magazine back issues are available online at google books - there are several hits for how to use a compass

That should get you started anyway, Jenn! Have fun! We love setting up compass scavenger hunts for our boys!!!
