Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My oldest dd is entering 8th grade... we've never done any "formal" science. We do nature journals (sporadically).

I've never been any good at following a curriculum, sigh. But I do want to make sure she gets a solid science background. I had bought an Apologia Gen Science but after researching that here I don't want to go that route. I want to be able to let her fly without constant monitoring for content contrary to our faith. She's not a dry workbook kind of girl, either... I need to keep her engaged.

I get so many interruptions during my day that I want to give her something to work alone most of the time.

I don't mind putting together my own thing, but I'm looking for something "comprehensive".... I feel like there are so many gaps in her science knowledge (thanks to me!!)

So.... I'm wondering what you have to suggest for me! I've been searching old posts but am still confused to my situation, specifically.

Katherine, holes in science are a misnomer since no one can know all or most of science.

Have you looked at some of the school textbook publishing companies for their general science books?

Maybe you could find some shorter series and put them together to create a general science curriculum. For example, Secrets of the Universe by Paul Fleisher is an excellent introduction to physics in 5 small, slim volumes. If you could find similar series for chemistry, biology, earth science, and astronomy you could cover each one in a month and a half.

I wish I had recommendations for you for the other subjects but I am still investigating that myself. We're using the physics books this year and I've only started looking for chemistry.
