Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone seen this text?

I am wanting to do a nutrition project for our 4H group, for the juniors and seniors. The families that participate in our group are big into real food.

It's kind of pricey, I'd go with the print version. So I am hoping someone can have a review for me.

Anyone been following her blog? I just found it when I googled for a nutrition textbook for high schoolers.

I don't own a copy, but I'd like to order one when our finances straighten out a bit. It does seem like the ONLY text out there that fits in that niche ("real food").

At the junior and senior level, though, you might be able to just go with the Nourishing Traditions cookbook or Real Food, if you already have either of those books. Michael Pollan also has a new book out called Food Rules, which I haven't read yet, but it looks like it might be the sort of thing you could use for a reasonable price.

No review, but thank you for the link! I've just poked around her blog and it is full of good stuff.

Thanks Angela for the Food Rules suggestion. It looks good. And I found another book by him, The Omnivore's Dilemma for Young Readers. This looks reasonable too! And something we can get through too.

I do have Nourishing Traditions. I don't own Real Food, but I have read it. I have Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Kingsolver. I enjoyed that one. I was thinking of having them read some of that too.

Oh, that looks SO good! I wish I'd seen it last year when I was having ds16 do human anatomy. I'd planned to do nutrition too but couldn't find something I liked and let it slide. I'd still like to do this, but he's doing chemistry this year and may rebel at adding this too. Hmm.

I've read Pollan's Food Rules and it's very similar to Real Food, not as in -depth as The Omnivore's Dilemma, which I loved. Food Rules basically sums up everything into 1. Eat whole foods, mostly plants 2. Not too much and there was a third thing I can't remember. He doesn't seem to go along with Planck's idea of whole dairy IIRC - I think he still recommends "lowfat" meat and dairy.

I'm really trying not buy books this month b/c of some unexpected expenses, but I really want this Nutrition book!
