Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Any experience with these programs? Do you recommend them? Trying to figure out what to do with science for my 1st grader next fall. We really haven't done any science this year in any formal way. Apologia looks good, but I'm thinking for upper grades. I will also have a 4 year old next fall who may listen in, which is why I'm considering the K program.

Thanks,
Lyda

Sonlight's K program was recently heavily altered, so I don't think many will be able to review it for you. I do know that the book they still use for experiments is not particularly popular on the boards. Its one of those books where it seems like it would be fun, but a lot of the experiments aren't much fun.

Fwiw, I think SL's science K is an awful lot of money to spend on science for a 1st grader and a 4 yr old (and from skimming science 1, I think a lot of the books would not hold the attention of most 4 yr olds). I'd be more inclined to do something like Serendipity's science baskets, along with nature study. If you are at all nature study challenged (I am ), I like Five in a Row's nature study downloads and you can buy one season at a time, rather than making the entire investment up front.

I did Sonlight for PreK, K, 1 and now 3. I never did their science due to cost issues.
This is what I did, FWIW. I found some Usborne books with experiments-plants, animals, nature, etc. And we worked through those. We did a lot of nature programs with the parks. Hikes. Zoo visits. At the young age of 1st, the programs seemed too much.
Now, with a 7 and 12 year old I finally bought a science and we are doing NOEO and loving it. I get some lower level books for dd, since we are doing level 2, mostly for ds.
Apologia I believe is for upper grades.
Relax and enjoy science at this age. The wonder of God's world is so fun for them!!
Hope that helps.

Thanks!   I'll have to check into Five in a Row and Serendipity.

What does NOEO stand for?

Thanks,
Lyda

Noeo   (no-eh'-o)

1. To perceive with the mind, to understand, to have understanding.
2. To think upon, heed, ponder, consider.
