I just realized that the sunrise/sunset data for this week has already been posted! Here's the link.
Everybody know your Class number? Who's got #6?--that one looks especially interesting!
Have your kids use the data to calculate the photoperiod for your Class #, and report your findings here so everyone can graph them.
Let the fun begin!

Thanks Lissa.
We'll calculate soon. The older kids are at Candlemas Mass right now, so they haven't seen it yet.
Okay, I'm kind of slow. I'm always juggling babe as I'm reading these things, so I don't think I can properly concentrate. . .
So, are people printing out ten graphs, or are you graphing all on one. I know Lissa said the different colors for each site. What are you all doing with that?
Sorry to be so dumb!

O.K. I'm just going to admit that I haven't spent the proper amount of time at the site and I'm all confused. Lissa has kindly explained it all once more so hopefully I'll get it all figured out tomorrow. I'm #3.....same location as Mary M. Right Mary?

You only need to print out one graph. Pick one color for each Mystery Class (ten total) plus an eleventh color for your hometown. We made up a little color-code key to tape on the wall beside the graph.
After you enter all of today's data, you'll have eleven colored dots on the leftmost vertical line of the graph (the Jan 30 line).
Hope that makes sense!

Gwen, your *hometown* location is the same as Mary's, but everyone has a different *Mystery Class* number (except Alice and I, who are sharing #1). Your Mystery Class is #3, you are correct.
Here's a recap of the Mystery Class assignments:
The number beside your name is your family's assigned Mystery Class.
1. Alice & Lissa
2. Angela
3. Gwen
4. Jennifer
5. Kathleen
6. Mary G.
7. Mary M.
8. Sarah
9. Theresa
10. Tracy
These assignments are just so no family has to calculate the photoperiod for *all ten* Mystery Classes every week. (Of course, if your kids WANT to do all ten math problems, they certainly may! My Kate went to bed last night clutching a notebook in which she'd copied down the sunrise and sunset times for all 10 Classes—she planned to figure out all the photoperiods before lights-out and see if her times matched the ones you all are posting.)
Since there are 11 families participating in our group (so far), and only 10 Mystery Classes, two of us had to "share" one Class. This just means that my kids and Alice's kids will both be calculating the photoperiod for Class #1, and we'll take turns posting our findings each week. Alice, would you like to do the honors this week?

Ds says the photoperiod for location #9 is 13 hours 17 minutes.
Ds got very excited when I told him if he wants to calculate all 10 photoperiods I will let him out of his other math on fridays. Then he can come check his answers on this board.
Woo hoo! I love the enthusiasm!

O.K. If you were here for a brief moment on Mon. morning you know I've deleted my most embarrasing post so far (I'm officially pre-menapausal )
We had exactly 15 min. more daylight than last week! 7:03 a.m.-5:25 p.m.
Denver.....10 hr., 22min.

Alice and Gwen,
How did you get so lucky? We only have 5 more minutes of daylight from last week. We're at 10 hrs 17 min. Ah well, at this point 5 min more seems so much better than 5 min. less!
God bless,
Angela

Well, officially we got another 13 minutes of sonlight (10hrs and 40 minutes here in Greenville), but it was so rainy and yucky today you'd never know!
This is a very cool project -- thanks again Lissa!

10 hours 38 mins here in the mountains of NC, which is a gain of 13 minutes! And it's snowing! This is only our 2nd snowfall this winter-highly unusual-so it's putting a smile on all our faces.
