Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Curious what you plant if you have a "pre-winter" season where you live.   I've noticed the very slightest hint of coolness here in the morning, which reminds me that summer is starting to draw to a close. Part of me is itching to plant something, and part of me is just really, really tired.

Every year we plant a rose bush on the Feast of the Assumption. Our last one did so well that we passed it on to a better home when we moved, and we bought a new one today. Hole digging will commence tomorrow.

Based on a link that JennGM offered in an old thread I can't find, we also bought squash, pumpkin, and tomato seeds which are supposed to be able to give a Fall harvest here. It's a science experiment really. I'm not good enough about gardening to be serious about it....yet.

This will be our first attempt at winter gardening.
Based off info from Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades I'll plant loose-leaf lettuce, mustard greens, spinach, and endive in September and October ~~ harvesting November through April.

Lettuce, kale, collards, broccoli, beets, radishes, carrots all do well in cooler/cold weather. Kale will even take a snow. You might even be able to get a season of peas in where you are, Amy.
