If you have a space for a window bird feeder but don't have one, treat yourself!
We bought one for my dh's birthday, and it has been a true blessing. We sit at the breakfast table, and the birds come and dine with us. They are so close that I am starting to be able to tell the male cardinals apart (the Lone Ranger has a perfect mask, but Tonto's is a little raggedy on the sides. Spike has red feathers that stick straight up off the top of his head).
Our yard has several feeders, but we have never had the birds up close like this. I wish I would have thought of getting a window feeder long ago.

We have this one and love love love it! I was afraid the birds would smack into the window, but they don't. It is by far our busiest feeder, and it's great for up-close viewing of house finches and chickadees.

I have been eyeing this in-house window feeder for years. A freind of mine had one and it is really cool.
Which window feeder do you have, Melinda?

Melinda - that's so neat! and pretty cheap too.
oh my that's some big bucks for a feeder Mary! but I admit it does look mighty fun. I bet my squirrels would even come to that one.
anyone have any other recommendation?
I'd never heard of these before and love the idea. We have tons and tons of birds out herre. I can't keep an feeder full for more than a day.
I wonder if there's any bat houses like that?

How do squirrels treat the window feeders as opposed to other ones?
The only feeder I will attempt here is hummingbird. And so far they aren't humming at mine.

I know! That's what has been keeping me from actually doing it (well that and the fact that we do have squirrel problems which my friend does not have and I know they would go in too) - but it is really awesome beyond the on window ones.
This site has tons of window feeder options, Martha - all price ranges, all styles.

We have one very similar to the Mobi feeder. It's like a big square pan that attaches on to the window via suction cups. We get all kinds of birds, large and small, and the squirrels can't get to it at all. (but we feed them separately at their own corn cob platform, so they can't complain  ). I think I paid about $32 for ours, which I thought was a lot at the time, but it has been worth every penny. It's like we have bird TV on 24/7.
We bought ours at our local Wild Birds Unlimited, and I am very pleased with it. Dh discovered that rubbing a little dish soap on the suction cups keeps them from slipping when the big birds land on the feeder. I was happy to hear him tell ds that it was his best birthday present. The two of them are total bird nuts!
I also picked up a peanut feeder but am saving that for Father's Day... the birds and squirrels ought to have fun with that.

ha! melinda I lgot totally derailed on that site.. now I want the Mr Piggy Pickle Jar
I know many consider squirrels a pest, but we find ours hilarious. Altho it does mean we can't own ANYTHING fabric in the yard. They've so far chewed apart the canopy on the fort, the cusion of a lawn chair, and the netting over the koi pond. they just love to use us as their personal Home Depot for building and decorating their nests.

We love the squirrels, here, too. We have a ton of babies in the back this spring, and they crack us up with their antics. So far they have never chewed up anything- but I've never had much fabric out in the yard other than our hammock.
And you'd never guess what- I can't believe it, but we actually have a Mr. Piggy Pickle Jar feeder in our yard, left by the previous owner. It's hidden away in a far corner, and we never knew what it was until today when I was trying to find an example of the window feeder to post. I couldn't believe it when I saw it on the website! We are definitely going to clean it up and move it to center stage so we can enjoy our Mr. Piggies even more.

Coming back here to say WE LOVE OUR NEW WINDOW FEEDER! It's been up for a couple weeks, and it's SO MUCH FUN! We can see them so close. The chickadees are more skittish and fly off as soon as there is movement or someone enters the room, but the finches could care less what's going on, we just can't get TOO close. They are only 4 feet from us! It's so fun!
I hadn't considered it before, because we have deck/walkway/sidewalk around all our living/dining room and kitchen windows, and we didn't want bird poop to clean up all the time. But, not around our bedroom windows....so that's where we put it.
