Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has any one ever made one?

Our weather is horrible this week, but next week is looking promisingg to go on our 1st hike. I would like to collect little pinecones, sticks etc and make keepsakes with the children. I was thinking bracelets.
Any one have any other good ideas?

A scavenger hunt it always a lot of fun.

Make a list with things like this to look for (can't remember now where I got the list idea from now....):

Three tree leaves, all different types.

• Three different seeds or seed coats (pods)

• An insect
• A feather
• Something round
• A twig shaped like a letter or number (not 1or l)
• Two kinds of grass

• Something soft
• Something sharp
• A rock with an interesting shape or color
• Something that a bug has nibbled on
• 2 kinds of bark (do not take off live trees)

• A piece of trash that needs to be picked up
• Two different flowers

• Something that reminds you of your best friend
• Some other interesting thing

On Your Own:
A. Choose one item on your list to find out more about. Write three facts here:
1.
2.
3.

B. Find a poem that goes with something on your list. Copy it in your best handwriting and add it to your nature journal.
C. Identify as many items as you can and write their scientific names beside their common names. Remember, capital Genus and lower case species, and underline them both (ex: slash pine, Pinus elliottii).
D. Make a rubbing of a leaf you like.
E. Make a sketch of the most interesting thing you found.

We do nature bracelets every year. I give the kids a piece of clear packing tape about 8 inches long, with yarn tied through a hole at each end. After they have gathered what they want, I place another piece of tape over their treasures so they don't fall off. It is a spring tradition here!

We're making fairy houses here these days. Family Fun has some inspiration.

Excellent ideas! We are going to try them all!

The kids have been begging for nature study outside but the weather is yuccy. I think tomorrow is going to be sunny so we will take your list sylvia and get started.... then we'll move on to the bracelet idea and for play time they will love to build the fairy houses. (Isn't it great when play time is so educational? )
