Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

There is something growing on our mayhaws. Not the tree, just the fruit.

Does anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it.

Looks like all my mayhaw jellies, jams, cakes, and pies will not be enjoyed this year.

Oh no, Cay! Not your mayhaws! I love mayhaw jelly so much I ship it up or buy cases of it to sit in my pantry when I'm down visiting family. There's just nothing else like it.

I, unfortunately, have no idea what it could be...but I'm praying as far as one can pray for a tree and fruit. It would be so tragic to lose all your fruit!

Just so you all know, the Mayhaw is a tree in the Hawthorne family that produces abundant little fruits in late April-ish. They thrive in soupy, wet soils - hence their concentration in bayou country. But, I think?? they're starting to grow them further north now?? Anyway, the fruit is so delicious and unique - and one of my favorites - but I could never grow it in the hard clay soil of North Alabama. Which is why I'm so happy I can order it!

Cay - Do you have pear trees in your yard? I read here that fire blight can carry over to the Mayhaw. The article also talks about an insect problem - the plum curculio which "feeds on the green fruit and cuts a crescent shaped cut where it lays a single egg". Take a look...maybe there's something in there.
