Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can I even tell you how much I don't like this subject? We used Apologia the first time we did this at the high school level. I hated hated hated it. Mostly because I had a hard time understanding the more physics related subjects. Also because ds insisted on doing it the standard way rather than letting me come up with alternative ways to assess knowledge (had to have something to turn in for NARS). I haven't found another program, though, that seems to make the subject more enjoyable. I posted here a few months ago about a different program...

...that looks ok, I guess, but I am not excited about having to do lots of internet searches to complete it. It doesn't really teach. It asks questions and asks the child to find the answers.

I found this today while reading over at Simply Charlotte Mason:

The next child in line to do phys. science is a girl, and she is a hard worker with a good attitude, but does not particularly like textbooks (which is fine with me). She is a good fit for SL, and will not be majoring in science in the future. Anyway, I was thinking maybe we could do something like this journal/lapbook instead of those horrible tests included with Apologia. Maybe it would make the subject more palatable since we cannot avoid it altogether??? It seems like there's a decent amount of work included, and a place for the labs (we did like the labs from Apologia). The link has a free downloadable sample. Would you consider using something like this for high school science?
