from whom?

I'm not interested at this time in heritage seed (I won't be saving seed from year to year).

I've bought starts/seedlings since I have nowhere inside to start from seed (and too short a season to start directly in the garden).. BUT my sister's rental house got new windows and we were able to get some of the old windows.. those plus the wood from the small deck we took out should give us all the supplies (except hinges) that we need to make cold boxes (unheated except by sun) and we'll get something to cover the glass at night so that they don't lose too much heat in the night.. and I'll be able to start seeds!!!!

Now last year I even hunted for sugar pie pumpkins seeds when I couldn't find seedlings and had no luck. So I know that since I'm particular about some types of seeds that I want my best bet will be to get them online rather than locally.

Sure would appreciate any help

Thanks ladies

I found last year that I couldn't get the types of things I wanted locally and the next town is no where near close enough to run to just for that.

I may have to go with heirloom seeds simply because I'm having a hard time finding the ones that I would like.. pie pumpkins in particular.

I did discover that Hatch Chiles sells seeds.. expensive at $9 for a half ounce.. but those are the ones we really like and I think I should be able to save seed from them and not need to repurchase.

This could be fun.. I've had such limited choice with buying seedlings.. I saw 3 colors of zucchini (dk green, yellow and pale green).. I don't think I want bizarre colors like the red cauliflower but I could get the white radishes as well as red.. and lemon cucumbers as well as pickling cucumbers..

Jodie,

I think you would be very happy with Pinetree Garden Seeds........I have used them for 17 years.

I like how they match my part of the country, almost exactly.

They specialize in the home gardener.

I like to use their paper catalog myself.

I've bought from Landreth Seeds for two years. The catalog is stunning.

I bought from Seeds of Change last year and was quite happy with them. Caution: looking through their catalog can have a negative impact on your bank account.

Sarah.. luckily the limited size of my garden prevents too big an impact

so many choices.. this will be difficult.... fun but difficult.

And Chari.. the one you posted sells asparagus roots (saving a good year on establishing a bed... how did you know I'd just talked to dh about that?

I second Pinetree-great size packets for our family garden.
If you can get a group together Fedco is great too.
