Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Brian and I have made an offer on a farm. It looks like it's going to be accepted. There are just over 70 acres of farmland with wetlands and woodlands included. We'd like to be able to organize nature walks for area families (esp. other homeschoolers). I'm looking for creative ideas to make each one a little different as well as fun and educational.

Blessings,

Well, with the great variety of habitats you'll have, it would be quite easy to design a woodland walk, a wetland wallow, a meadow meander, etc. Seasonal changes will help you to offer a spring wildflower walk, a summer insect hike, or a fall leaf-looking or berry-gathering outing. You could also do a bird-watching walk, a bug walk, a salamander hunt, a stone-turning walk, a fungus hike. A scavenger hunt is always fun as are cloud watching and night-time hikes.

So much lovely potential, Nissa! We have access to my dh's parents farm of 63 acres and it sounds similar with a variety of habitats for exploring.

We like to make sure we do a "signs of _____whatever season it is______" walk. And for the last 3 years I've encouraged the children to adopt a tree on the property - a different tree each year. It is amazing the small details they observe about the trees when they are watching with a careful eye one particular tree.

Having said that, our best walks - the ones with the most memories and the most treasured finds - are the ones we take off without an agenda and just enter God's Creation with a wondering eye. It has been such a blessing for me and a lesson filled time that encourages *me* to be a child again, and look with wonder at all things as a child does.

I'm praying so hard this farm becomes a reality for you guys!
