Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So Pluto's been demoted.. does anyone have books to recommend about the "new" solar system??

Looking especially for elementary books but adult books can work too. but we're looking only for basic info.

I have K-6th grade and want to do a bit with them. (splitting science between astronomy and weather this year) I've been looking over Macbeth's list and searching at adoremus books and amazon.

I found this book 11 Planets: A New View of the Solar System but I don't know anything about it but what's listed.. the problem is that with the dward designation more could be added and maybe dwarf planets won't be official planets etc. Looks like there's other books but not much said about some that look promising. And I have very low possibility of getting my hands on any of these books to see what they're like.

help please

They may have "demoted" Pluto, but the physical properties of the body are still worth studying. Any book on the solar system should be fine, but it's great that they updated the Simon book. His books are great for the photos, and he was delightful at a book signing where we met him once.

There is a saying going around: "When I was your age, Pluto was a planet!"

Am I the only one that cannot get used to Pluto not being a planet? When I did a unit on the solar system I kept saying to my kids "there are NINE planets!"

MacBeth - I love the saying!!

Funny, MacBeth.

I love Seymour Simon's books, too. Will have to check out the Solar System one, especially now that it is revised.

Oh look another Macbeth recommendation has been revised

The Stars by H.A. Rey

it comes out next month

And I agree Macbeth.. a lot of the info won't actually change.. but I also want to get the latest info to include.. so I just didn't want all older books that don't reflect any of the changes in terminology or what not.

We love the Seymour Simon book. We also like the internet for space study. There are some great animations on Youtube.
