We are camping at Myrtle Beach and will start driving home in a few days. Any suggestions for camping on our route home? My only requirement is that there are electric hookups- I like a/c :)

Not sure EXACTLY where your route goes but having lived in VA, with Shenandoah National Park 10 miles from my house I suggest a little ride on the parkway and a night at the Big Meadows area. Pretty and fun to do.
We are in Ohio now and I have heard really good things about Hocking Hills State Park in Logan, Ohio(southern area of state). Some really neat hiking and rock formations. We haven't been yet but it is on my list.
Hope that helps. Have fun!

Best suggestion I can make is to try for state parks. We have been fooled one too many times with websites that look gorgeous and when we get there, 1/2 the park is permanent sites, which just isn't pretty. State parks only let you stay for 14 days, and most of the time the bathrooms and sites are really clean. We stayed at one in NY that was just gorgeous, a couple of years ago.

Not sure if this is on your planned route but it would be a great family stop.

Thanks for all the help! We are leaving tomorrow and I'll let you know where we ended up stopping.

Our favorite Virginia State Park for camping is Douthat State Park in Clifton Forge, VA. It's only a little over an hour from a place definitely worth visiting - the Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton, VA. I highly recommend visiting there. And dh would say you must stop in Lexington, VA on the way to see Stonewall Jackson's burial place too!

Oh my goodness, if you can do it, do NOT miss Hocking Hills State Park in SE Ohio. It is probably the most gorgeous part of the state.
We stayed at Scenic View Campground, which was fairly nice...lots of shaded sites w/full hook-ups, though there is a fairly steep hill to drive up which isn't nice at all in the rain. It's a little bit of a drive from the park locations, so you may prefer staying inside the state park.
Top O' The Caves looked really nice when we drove by it and it is really close to the hiking trail that leads to some of the caves, which is appealing.
BTW, we just returned from "suburban Chicagoland" (Hoffman Estates and McHenry) where DS and his baseball team took second place in the 11U CABA World Series.
Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Thanks Irene! I think we may be headed there tonight. I'm off to call and see if they have room for us.
Julia- we'll try and route ourselves over there during the weekend! You were a stones throw from our house- but we weren't there of course :) Maybe we should start a 4real travel registry so we can stop by and visit when we travel!

Oh good! Maybe you'll get lucky and they'll have an open site right on the lake, as we've gotten in the past. It's really beautiful!
