Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

In 2 days we'll be getting a ferret!

We will be babysitting it for about 3 weeks. My boys are excited. Me? Well, we're not too excited about having a pet IN the house, but I'm happy about the opportunity to have a temporary pet!

Anyone else have a ferret? We've been scouring the library and have found some good books, but I've still got some questions!

I had a ferret growing up. I loved her dearly. She was very, very tame, and I have never seen one quite as sweet and non-bitey as she was since.

They are EXTREMELY curious animals. They will climb up. They will get stuck, but they have NO depth perception and so will walk right off the edge of a high place. You have to watch becuz you don't want them to fall and get hurt.

Ferrets can be really, really goofy. They do this kind of prancing-jumping-hopping run. And some make a cute little noise to go with it (mine did.) They can also be pack rats and will steal shiney objects (or objects of interest) and will chew sometimes too. Mine particularly liked to chew remote buttons.

And they will act all crazy jumping and running around like a nit-nat and then be asleep two seconds later - you have to be careful cuz they like to nuzzle into things and you don't want to accidentally sit on them or squish them.

I miss my ferret.

I had a couple growing up and just recently took care of my sister's two ferrets for a while. I love them, but you need to ferret-proof very carefully, and then keep a close eye because they are capable of getting into the smallest spaces you can imagine. It's probably best to close off one room for the ferret to play in and have the owner check it over for you. They can also climb! If you do lose one under a piece of furniture, they usually come back if you squeak a toy. Most ferrets' favorite thing to do is hide things, so just have a pile of toys, let the ferret stash them in corners and under things, then put them all back and start over again! Have fun!
