Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 9 yo dd and I have come up with a way for her to study geography -- which she does not retain well -- this year. Since birds are her passion, she's going to do a course we're calling "Birds of the World". She'll study the birds of each continent, but to make it geography-oriented, she'll first have to make sure she knows where the continent *is* and in her synthesizing project for each continent, she has to include a map.

We have about a zillion bird guides, including (*cough*) "Birds of Costa Rica".

Montessori Services sells 3-part bird cardsfor each continent, but they're a little pricey, especially if you're buying *all* of them. I think I'd rather just use books. Anyone know of any good living books (picture or chapter books) that can go along with our study?

She wants to start with South America first.

Angela,

What a great idea! We live in Suriname and there is a website devoted to the birds here. Birds of Suriname I think there are recordings of calls, too.

If your daughter learns where Suriname is then she'll know something geographical most people don't!

Have fun with your unit.
