Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So we took DS to a rock show this weekend... and suddenly he is very interested in them!
Which is great... because I like for him to be interested, and not-so-great because I am having a time finding some good old fashioned CM-style resources!

can anyone help?
Book Suggestions?
Websites?
Just good ideas?

TIA!

I love rocks! Rocks Rock!! LOL!

I have some general suggestions on my website (see signature), but here are some wonderful specifics:

Rocks in his Head, the true story of the author's father, who was self-educated geologist.

How to Dig a Hole to the Other Side of the World

The Big Rock

Roadside Geology of Virginia (for you now; for him later).

The Best Book of Rocks...

DK's Rocks and Minerals for beautiful pictures!

Pigeon Post (read-aloud, for a gold mining adventure).

Visit The Mineral Information Institute on the web--sometimes they have free stuff!

Also, check out some of our field trip ideas, including cave visits, canal rides, diamond mining, etc.:

Field Treks

I'll second this as a fun living book on rocks. Also I just found this one which sounds good - Rocks in My Pockets. I've requested it from the library so I'll let you know. Have you read it, MacBeth?

What about one of the versions of Stone Soup?

We also like Janice Van Cleave's Rocks and Minerals for good hands-on experiments with rocks.

Indiana Geological Survey page has some fun experiments and activities. The igneous mint fudge and conglomerate cookies sound yummy!

This Planet Really Rocks also has several activities.

Thanks you two! You both ROCK!

It was so hard to convince DH that we needed to look at some kids books... I kept hearing the complaint but I have lots of books he can look at...
But I wanted LIVING books in addition to the field guides!

Thanks again... definitely looking them up now (and Macbeth, I was going to look at your page, but ended up having to rescue dd from ds before I got to it !)
