Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I had considered P.M.ing Macbeth about this question and then I thought that maybe others would want to see the answer to this question since I know a lot of you use this as a resource.

For my 7th grader, I would like to use KSE as a spine Chapters 1-5( a page spread a day) but also supplementing with real books and activities. Any science kits and real books to go along with this spine? Is this a good idea or is another preferable? Macbeth and anyone else please help?

Thank you.

I realized as I read my post that it would only be fair not to assume that the reader knows what science subjects I'm talking about.
Here are the 5 chapters:
chapter 1- Earth science/geology
Chapter 2- Living things
Chapter 3- Human Biology
Chapter 4 Chemistry and the Elements
Chapter 5- Materials and Technology

Again, thanks!

Marianne

Isn't this something the Well Trained Mind recommends? Using Kingfisher and taking notes, I don't think they recommend the extension but I rather like that myself.

For Earth Science/Geology, I would highly recommendRoadside Geology of Vermont and New Hampshire and do some hands-on work "in the field." Though I haven't seen that particular book in the series, I have the one for my state (Ohio) and I'm really impressed with it. I'm guessing the other books in the series are similar. The exciting part about geology (to me, anyway), is applying what you learn to your specific locale. "Why do we have this type of soil? How were the Green Mountains formed?" etc.

Here is a link to the
Vermont Geological Survey site. There are some helpful documents explaining the geology of your state and there is also a Vermont rock kit available to purchase! Too cool! This link will take you to a page linking other helpful resources.

Hope that gives you a head start!

Valerie
