I am not great with science, but I have not been overly fond of the science in the younger years. I bought and promptly resold the Easy as 1,2,3 book...we use the stories from science book because my ds just likes to read those kinds of things...I do like the Behold and See (but I am not as good as a lot of the other ladies here in using living books  ). My children did use My Temple of the Holy Spirit and we made lapbooks from HoC and that seemed to go well. So I guess it is really just Easy as 1,2,3 that I felt was a waste for us.

I did not care for Behold and See. ..it may just be me..I have problems with science curricula in general

I didn't care for the Easy as 1,2,3 Science book either. It seemed like common sense stuff to me. It was just a vague outline.
My daughter did do the Temple of the Holy Spirit project a couple of years ago and it went OK. Kinda dry IMHO, though.
We used Catholic Stories from Science last year, but I don't believe it would stand alone. Probably not meant to.
We never owned Behold and See.

Thank you for these honest reviews. I could not get a feel from the catalog if any of these books had potential for us. I think I will keep looking.

Melinda - I own Behold & See (which is primarily geared toward 3rd grade, I believe), and unlike Marilyn, I really like it! Science is my weak subject, I'll admit, so maybe that taints my viewpoint. However, what I like about Behold & See is the tying together of faith and science, the inclusion of copywork (scripture), the simplicity of the experiments to demonstrate basic concepts, and the illustrations (nice and colorful!) Now I will say that I don't use it as is but more as a spine. For each chapter, I assign living books/related topic books for each child that's age appropriate. I do this through 7th grade, and I also supplement with other experiment kits for the older kids on some of the subjects, so they get the greater depth they need. Next year I will have a 7th, 5th, 2nd, and K. The 2nd grader will pretty much do the book as is, while the K does mostly listening to the lesson and just reading great books. The 5th and 7th will be asked to read living books that are more in depth and challenging, along with having more experiments/assignments to complete. I also plan on using the Temple of the Holy Spirit project for the first time this year during the time we are studying the human body in Behold & See, so we'll see how that goes. I guess for me, B&S is a great outline to follow and simple enough I don't have to do alot of planning to carry it out. You can keep it simple as written, or take it and run with it supplementing with books, other experiments, etc. - I like flexibility!

I heard rave reviews of Behold and See while back from my sister-in-law who homeschools. I just recently picked up a used copy from a friend and plan to use it for my 3rd and 5th grader together. Although it is geared for 3rd grade, my s-i-l felt that it could be used for a much wider age range.

I *wish* I could get ahold of these books somehow to peruse them. But it looks like maybe a pass for Easy as 1,2,3 but Behold and See could be promising.

Can those of you who panned Easy as 1 2 3 please tell me what exactly you disliked? I've printed the "samples" from their website, but it's really not easy to tell what the program is truly like by the samples.
Is it content, or presentation that you dislike? Are the topics too elementary, or is there too much work involved for teacher or student?
After this year of putting together entire history & science curricula for all 3 of mine, I was hoping to use this with my younger 2 students as sort of a "breather" for myself. But if it's just horrible, I guess I'll need to start over.
What would you suggest to replace this? Can Behold & See be "dumbed down" for a 2nd grader & Kindergartener? (My oldest will be using Apologia.)
Thanks for any more input you can provide!!! These are such hard decisions! Especially when you can't return it! ugh!

I haven't actually used 1-2-3 yet, but I do have it and will be using it for my 1st grader next year. Having looked through it, I don't think I would use it as a stand alone science curricula for 2nd and 3rd grade, but I think that for an introductory science course, it would be just fine for K and 1st, particularly if you're needing a breather! It looks to be a lot of easy hands on activities with an introduction to the basics of science and critical thinking.

I found this book at the library: Exploring God's World
by Bonnie Pettifor
It looks promising for K science- the experiments are simple but interesting, and probably 95% of the materials I already have around the house. The work calls for observing, sketching, predicting and recording observations. The lessons are all tied into a Bible theme.
