I have a large closet where we keep art supplies, but my kids also like to get creative in a science-y way so I'd like to add some raw science materials. Occasionally they will find an experiment they want to try in one of our science encylcopedias, but we won't have the supplies (for example, the other day Thomas wanted insulated wire).
What sorts of things would you stock in a science supply closet?

Ooooh! Excellent question!
Some of our stuff is already packed away, but I will take look in our cabinet and see what I find...
First,just fyi, I sort them roughly by categories, Life, Earth, chemistry, and Physical. Although there is overlap, it does help me find stuff when I need it.
Life:
Yeast
dissecting supplies (scalpels, pins, tray, etc)
latex gloves
petri dishes
microscope slides
cover slips
specimen dishes
dropper bottle
pipettes
razor blades
food coloring
chromatography paper
sample vials
denatured alcohol
magnifying glasses

Theresa...you are too funny...way more than a good start!
I love that between iodine and simulate blood typing kit, you have sea monkey stuff. I like your train of thought 
This is a great list to put in my notebook! Thanks!
Oh the only thing I can think of adding would be some botany type things...a bunch of seeds, and small pots and dirt to be handy. Some times my kids just feel like planting and say...got anything to plant. Has something I'm sure to do with "legal" digging in the dirt time!

Oh, I agree! We have that stuff, too, but just don't keep it in the science cabinet.It stays on the potting bench in the garage, usually.
There are many other science supplies that come to mind, but for this list I was thinking more on the lines of "science pantry" type stuff.
Other supplies that come in handy, but are, to me, a different sort are things like microscopes, dip nets, collecting jars,a telescope, binoculars, a rock tumbler, etc.

Wow, how exciting! And thank you for categorizing them. When I shop, it will help me to know that certain things go together. Where will I go to shop?
What sorts of books do you have around to get the kids into the supplies? I would love for this to be a place for them to explore without too much micromanaging from me.
Is there a picture anywhere of anyone's science closet organization?
