Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ok, ladies, I am SO excited because we planted our sunflower fort and actually have sunflowers growing! LOL!

Now, for these "mammoth" sunflowers, which are supposed to be 6 feet tall, do I need to do anything to them as they get taller? Will they tip over and break? Am I supposed to tie them to anything?

Right now I have 1 that is nearly 1 ft tall and the rest are a few inches behind that one...I want to make sure I don't kill them at this stage! We get so excited when we got out and see them getting taller and taller!!

THANKS!

Last year I grew sunflowers with my daughter (12) and step daughter (6). We didn't make them into forts, but we did measure them weekly and record it to make a graph. We also took photos of my step daughter and her dad with them - she really enjoyed seeing the flowers grow taller than her.
Sunflowers are so much fun because they grow SO fast and do well without a lot of attention. We didn't stake our flowers at all, I think we only had one or two go down after a hard Oklahoma rain
If I remember right, seems like toward the end of the growing season is when I thought maybe we should have staked them to make them last longer. We also had a beautiful bright yellow finch that would come almost every afternoon and snack on the seeds!
Enjoy your sunflowers!
