Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A cardinal!!!

I know that to some of you this is a common sight but to our family this is something new. We've had established feeders now for a year and a half and we've only just had a brief sighting of a cardinal, or so we think. The kids saw it early in the morning and I was still in bed.

Yesterday at our new house the kids started screaming for me to look out the window by the porch. On the railing of the porch was a male cardinal.

I'm so excited and anxious to get our feeders moved and filled and to see what kind of wildlife we will have at our new home.

We also saw pheasants out in the back grass land area of the property.

How exciting! My mom and dad have tons of cardinals at their house and it is an absolute joy to sit there and watch them come and go. It is amazing what excitement a little bird feeder can bring, especially in the middle of winter when most wildlife has abandon us for warmer climes!

Blessings,
Betsie

Cardinals are gorgeous against the snow! They're so much prettier than Robins but Robins get all the attention as harbingers of spring (unless you live in the South and have these birds all the time! )

I took cardinals for granted until we moved to WA and there were none. I really missed the bright red birds.
Now that we've moved back to Iowa we have up to 8 males at one time! It's a gorgeous sight!

I put some feeders up last weekend and it had been pretty quiet but yesterday when we drove up to the property we saw the male cardinal.

Then, this afternoon we had a male and a female cardinal, some junco's, nuthatches and a small blue jay. He was the brightest blues I've ever seen. I'm just so excited about our new home and neighbors (the birds). Hopefully my cats will leave them alone.
