Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Now is a good time to cover bubonic plague with your dc.

But don't tell them about this:
Mice Infected With Bubonic Plague Missing

Note where it took place. I assumed it was in New Orleans. But it wasn't.

Plague is a chronic problem in NYC anyway, but I think these mice have simply been miscounted.

Whenever the rat population outgrows the human population (like when the Dept. of Sanitation goes on strike ) there are plague warnings. Stear clear of rodents and fleas...

Our yard-guy spotted a Water Moccasin sunning itself on our doorstep . Apparently, it's made a nice little home for itself in the shrub bed next to the door, convenient to the dogs' water bowl. We later caught the fellow, in flagrante delicto, shopping for mice in our adjacent garage. Turned out it wasn't a Moccasin afterall, but a banded water snake, and you know? I'd rather have a banded water snake as a homie "g" than random rodents ANYDAY, especially after seeing your article, Cay!

PS But our neighbor found a FIVE FOOT Moc under their pool steps yesterday! In that case, I might have to go with the rats...

Kelly,

I wouldn't like either. If I was your neighbor, you would have heard my screams echoing for a long long time. We get thirteen line ground squirrels in our garage which are harmless and cute--I still can't stand it!!
