What would a high school level botany class look like?

Delicious!
I'd use Steve Brill's book, Mendel's pea experiments, big flower dissections, lots of different fruits, a succession pot in the spring, plant every seed in the house, on and on...propagate plants by cuttings, more, later.

I'm asking because it occurs to me that my 16 yo has pages and pages of nature journals. Couldn't these be organized and expanded upon to count for one or two high school level lab sciences? Botany, ecology, even geology or astronomy? Is there a way to generate a reading list and a "core knowledge" list and make this look not only acceptable, but outstanding and exceptional?

Yes. And I'm sure that would be more than acceptable as a course. His drawings are accurate, and the subject matter is perfect.

Elizabeth,
I wonder if Barb's book would help you in putting that together. I was asking if anyone had used her book and/or could compare it to Cafi Cohen's book.
I am thinking about trying to go it alone without using a correspondence accredited school for Zach (for financial as well as freedom reasons!)and I know that these books might be helpful.
Do you own either one?

Elizabeth,
which do you recommend?
Also, way off topic here, but do you have a day by day breakdown of work for your Transitions trail guide? Or is it up to me the parent to be creative with the book list? My creative gene has been dormant lately!
