We Louisiana gals must suffer the grave injustice year after year of not seeing the changing colors of fall. I think it's a trade off we make for gumbo and boiled crawfish. Anyway, I'd like to send sme self-addressed stamped envelopes to some of you who may be willing to send us an envelope full of leaves when autumn arrives in your neck of the woods. Ideally, I'd love to start with Maine or upstate New York and continue receiving them as the weatehr change travels south. We could mark each spot on the map and check our arrivals against the fall foliage map on the internet. Then do fun fall crafts with the leaves and write nature-inspired thank you notes to the families who sent them...if you are a willing participant to my desperate attempt at actually experiencing all four seasons in order, please pm me.

What a great idea - I'm impressed with your idea for bringing autumn to an "autumn-less" area. We would definitely contribute and I'll PM you. One thing to note is that it isn't only the latitude that is going to affect the timing of fall arrival in each area. We tend to have a pretty earlier fall here compared to some more northerly locations due to the higher altitude.
And what is the link for the fall foliage map you mention?

Colleen has so many great ideas! Can we please come over one afternoon and see the bounty when autumn comes to your house??
"Delicious autumn!
My very soul is wedded to it,
and if I were a bird
I would fly about the Earth
seeking the successive autumns."

Hereis the link to the fall foliage map. It hasn't been updated for this season yet. I hope they do it again this year.

Another note, some species of trees change very early, compared to, say, the lovely colorful maples of New England. We have Buckeye trees here (Ohio) that have started to turn already. We haven't had much rain this summer in southwest Ohio, so that's probably part of the reason. However, the Buckeyes tend to be one of the earliest to change in this area.
