Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anybody know of a hands on project (Theresa?!?!?!) to teach children how we get power from water?
I understand we could build a water windmill or wheel, but how do I make that water start power?

Thank you,

Simona

we recently purchased a small rocket that converts water into the hydrogen power it needs for propulsion. we got it wal-mart for about $19. dh loves these things so the kids have had experience with lots of them and were amazed that you could get 100 launches out of 2 cups of water. could launch some fun rabbit trails on the possibilities of water power.

Depending on the ages of your children, there are several things you could do.
I think this is the very best project:build Your own hydro-electric generator. I would say this project is for middle school on up to high school level. I am actually thinking of letting my son have a go at it this year. I think he can do it with a little help.

If you are working with younger children, you could make a simple water wheel, and then just explain that in a hydro-electric systems, the water is directed into powerful streams which are used to turn a turbine. The turbine is connected to a electric generator. The generator makes use of electromagnets to produce electricity.
Here is a simple explanation:How hydropower works
And here are some very simple hydro-power related projects for younger kids:hydropower
I hope that helps!

Theresa!!!!
That was exactly what I needed. I really like the first project and I know my son, 11, will have fun building the generator ( with the help of dh).

Thankyou soooo much,

Simona
