Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is this a good spot for this question ?
We are in need of a tent . We need something light wieght , good ventelation , yet can handle good winds , rains etc.
We started off 23 yrs ago with a eureka 4 person tent . Then had to move up to a 8 person
We are now in need of the 4 person type again .
The last time we urchased was in about 1989 .
We really loved the Eureka tents back then but I've no idea if they remain the same good quality for what you pay . Are there equally as good brands out there now ?
Now backpacks is a whole different story for me .I never actually purchased a backpack only borrowed . I really liked the one I did borrow as it fit my body type well .I'm 5'2" ( did I get those markings right )and slightly built .
Something that can be used both as a backpack and a suitcase .I do not like metal frames . We may be traveling by car , bus , train so I need to be able to handle it in most travel envrnments .
How about for kids ? Backpacks for children ?
I look forward to your ideas
Much Lov , Rox
H

Hi Rox--I love Eureka tents and would buy another in a heartbeat. Last forever, really weather proof, many choices. I bought my last one about 10 years ago.
Backpack for you--find out what you borrowed and get it. We have found Campor has great prices on outdoor stuff--and they carry lot's of tents and backpacks.
My kids just have the LLBean bookbags. They seem to work for them, though they are a little big and could get overpacked so check them before you leave on a hike!!
Sounds like you are planning quite the adventure!

Backpacks I'm just clueless maybe it was Eureka too that I borrowed .Do they make backpacks ? That was almost 21 yrs ago no maybe 19 yrs It has been that long since I've seen the person I borrowed it from so I can't ask them what it was .
Maybe I'll go tonight alone and just have a peak at what is out there .

I'll second the suggestion for Campmor -- not only are their products great, so are their prices!

My dh and ds both love Campmor. They are forever looking at it planning their Philmont trip (2008--yes it takes that long to get ready). I highly recommend it! Like Mary said, great selection and great prices.

On packs, you should decide it you want an internal or external frame. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. It might also depend on the type of packing that you are doing and the weather at the time.

Talk to a local supplier who can give you better (or more) information than I can. Good luck making your decision. Camping is great fun!

Roz,

You might see if you have an REI near you as they have extremely helpful, knowledgeable staff who are more than willing to share thier expertise....

I wouldn't know where to start either as far as which tent. I think the suggestions of going to a reputable camping store-REI, etc. might help. We actually went to Campmor in NJ once and what fun--all the tents and other equipment were set up=awesome. LLBean is a cool place to visit to--if you are close to Maine. Sorry I can't be much more help, good luck though.
