OK...if you click to buy "three roses for a 'cause'" one of the choices is this, but another includes the Geraldine Ferraro rose!    Searching now for the Mondale rose...

Anyway, wouldn't it be cool to add the JPII rose to your Mary Garden?

Pretty easy...they tend to bloom through late November in zone 6.

I try to plant only things my neighbor-deer don't want to eat. They have a whole forest out there, but still I don't want to offer them a salad bar. So far I've succeeded. But the big question remains -- how do they feel about roses?

Roses are quite edible. You can eat them, and deer like them, too. I don't have any deer issue here, but maybe someone else has a solution?

Just wanted to say I got the "Our Lady of Guadeloupe" rose for my mom for Mother's Day a few years ago. It was so beautiful I got one for myself last year. It is gorgeous! (Even in Michigan!)

Deer usually love roses, but if planted with herbs like chives, mint or lavender it can help deter them. Still, don't count on the deer to leave them alone. The JPII rose looks incredible (and edible - roses are even edible for humans if not treated with pesticides-see Elizabethan English recipes.)
