My oldest will have adenoids and tonsils removed, and uvula cut this Thursday. I am a bit nervous and would appreciate prayers for peace and a successful and peaceful surgery for son, and that he will not be too nervous or upset. Thanks, ladies!!

Oh, I will pray. He's going to awake with a fiercely blazing sore throat. I had this surgery at age 11 and remember it well . However, it helped so much that my life was changed. I could breathe at night without snoring. It was amazing.
The sore throat feels like someone's stuck a flaming torch down your throat...it's so bad that you can't talk to explain what the problem is. (I am not trying to scare you, but to prepare you for how your ds will feel.) If you tell him ahead of time and figure out ways he can communicate, that might help ease any communications problems...

I had the surgery at age 8, and I remember it well, too. I didn't want all the jello, ice cream, and popsicles to soothe it. It just plain hurt so bad, like fire in the throat. Chloraseptic was so nice to numb the pain.
It is completely normal for him to start a bit nasal after the surgery. My mother didn't know this, and kept correcting me, even making me read into a recorder so I could hear myself. We had to have the reassurance from the doctor later.
But I needed the surgery, as I was losing my hearing....
Praying for your son and you!

Thank you, ladies, for the prayers and for the warnings! I new it would hurt, but didn't realize that it would be so bad. We still need to talk to him about the details and will mention the communication issues. He's never had any surgery, so this is totally new territory for him. He asked the other day what would happen if the pain woke him in the middle of surgery, and we explained just what "anesthesia" meant in this case.

Wow! I will be praying.
Try getting your dr. to prescribe liquid antibiotics...I had to swallow pills...terribly painful..I was 18 and was physically fighting my Mom from giving me the pill...it hurt that bad to swallow! Awful!
Crushed ice and movies helped me get through the week. My Mom would put holy water on my forehead each night and say a prayer....it was very comforting to me. She also set up a humidifer in my room (although it was June) so I some moisture in the air.
Let him know prayers for Chicago coming his way!!!!

Praying, Janette. My ds went through the same when he was 7. The first day following the surgery was tough, but things got easier after that. I'll ask him to pray for your son as well.

Janette, I will remember your dear boy in prayer this Thursday - praying that it will be successful and with as little discomfort as possible.

Janette, I'll be praying. My dd had this surgery when she was 4. I went through BOXES of popsicles. And I remember that when she was able to speak -- her voice had changed!

I'm bringing in the big prayers...those of my sympathetic boys:
"I'm going to offer up my rosary, daily prayers, and my work, and I will say extra prayers for you. I will say an extra rosary and will pray a novena to St. Blaise for you." From Aiden
"I'm going to offer up my morning and night prayers for you and a rosary for you and my daily work for you." From Ian
Our family will pray for you all.
Love,

Janette and Tim and sweet boy........we will pray here..........esp Matthew who knows EXACTLY what that FIRE feels like
........for us........one week later, he still could not eat anything except REALLY soft foods. That was a surprise for us.
Also, we did the movie thing, too.......rented LOTS of movies that week. It helped him immensely.
Blessings,
