Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please pray for my dh and his family. Long story short, over a year and a half ago, we were taking care of my MIL's parents, and her father was extremely ill. She wanted to stay with us, but she didn't tell my dh. She told him that she had made hotel reservations and then sent him this email saying how shocked she was that we hadn't invited her and my SIL to stay with us. They have always been very negative towards me, to me and behind my back. My dh had already decided that hosting them was not an option, because it sent the wrong message to our kids. They were not welcome to mistreat the mother of his children. Instead of coming anyway, she chose to cancel her trip and blame us. My grandfather-in-law passed away a month later without having said goodbye to her. She has not spoken to my dh since, but she has spoken of him to my grandmother-in-law very negatively. She blames him for her health issues, my SIL's health issues, and anything else that seems fitting. We sent a Christmas card last year and this year, even though she moved and specifically told my GIL not to give us her forwarding address. The card reached them today after going through the forwarding system at the USPS. Minutes later, her husband (#3) left a nasty voicemail message on my dh's cell phone asking us to stop the correspondence; it was a photo card of her five grandkids. He blamed my dh for shortening my MIL's life by two decades and does not want to hear from us again. I'm not sure if my MIL was even home from work yet, but he made the call nonetheless.

Please pray for them to find a way to stop this cycle of hate and anger. We have never received the slightest respect from them in our decisions from the moment we met all through the years. All we wanted was for some restraint to be shown for our kids' sakes. We don't have to get along, but it would be really nice if there was peace. I feel a tremendous amount of guilt over this, too, because I feel like I'm the center of it. Neither of us were good about drawing boundaries for our families from the beginning; we've known each other since we were 19. All my dh was trying to do, after entering the Church that Spring, was make things right with me and our dc.

Thank you for your support and prayers.

Monica - i am sorry for you and your family. I will pray. It is hard when things are going wrong. we had relationship issues with my dh's side of the family years ago - nothing this bad - but it all worked out with lots of prayers and trips to confession.

Thank you all so much for your prayers. Believe me, we are feeling them. When you are brought up in sick families, your first response is to want to react right away. We have prayed together, individually, and will pray as a community to do the Lord's will for our family. Right now, that means being ready to extend an olive branch again, even with rejection facing us. Thank you so much.

I will keep them and you in my prayers. We have had many painful and anxiety producing experiences with my in-laws too. It's very sad.
