I am on day 4 of a migraine behind my left eye that just won't quit. Its intensity comes and goes but it's always there in some degree. It had lessened enough yesterday that I made it to mass but is really quite bad this morning. Nothing is helping (though a cold compress does give me some - albeit temporary - relief). It's keeping me from sleeping at night and because I have a cold every time I cough I get a shot of pain. My dear friend and CRNP prescribed Vicodin for me yesterday so I could at least get some sleep last night. I took it but it didn't do a thing - not even help me sleep. Because I am pregnant I cannot take migraine medicine and nothing else touches it. I have done everything I can think of (homeopathy too) and still it persists. Prayers would be greatly appreciated and for those of you who suffer migraines regularly (they are not common for me, just occasional) you are assured of my prayers and sympathy!
Thanks,

Dear Michele, I am so sorry you are suffering so badly. I wish I knew of a remedy you could take right now. I suffer 4-6 of them a year and they are horrible. So very sorry you are hurting. I will offer the next decade in my rosary for you.

I posted a response on the FCL Message Board, but I thought you might get it quicker if I posted here.
Michele,
Have you been diagnosed with migraines? The reason I ask is because a little over a year ago I thought I had migraines and I was experiencing the same symptoms you describe. Finally, test after test, (It was so ridiculous. I went to the ER and had an MRI and a spinal tap…they just couldn’t figure it out.) I was diagnosed with impacted sinuses. Mine were so severe that they required surgery (they had closed up and new sinus passages were made), but many people just need to try some sinus remedies (like saline irrigation, essential oils, or in some cases antibiotics, etc…). For me it didn’t seem connected. I hadn’t had a cold, I didn’t suffer from regular sinus infections…it seemed to come out of nowhere, but the symptoms where identical to migraines.
You are in my prayers. It’s so hard to handle these ailments, especially when we’re pregnant.

I was going to suggest something similar. I do get migraines, and when the usual remedies don't work, sometimes a combination of sudafed and pain reliever (such as Aleve or motrin, etc) gives me some relief. The decongestant helps relieve the pressure which I think is a trigger for me (as are certain weather patterns due to pressure changes). I only suggest this because you say you have a cold. Sinus pressure could be a trigger for you, too.
In addition, you have my prayers.

Praying Michele.
Are you wearing sunglasses?
Because my migraines give me extreme light sensitivity, I wear them even in the house.
I have found that an ice pack on my neck gives me temporary relief.
Since migraine meds(have done the shots, pills and nasal drops) make me sick and then I get a rebound headache, I use a combination of ice, non-steroidal and sleep--there is no way around the sleep, especially if I do not medicate and ice early.

I talked to my friend (and CRNP) this morning after I started coughing out some pretty yucky stuff this morning (I'll spare you the details) and she really thinks it a sinus infection so she put me on an antibiotic.
I am going to do some nasal irrigation today and see if that helps. I am hopeful of having relief soon!
Thanks,

Something that has helped me is steaming water with a few drops of eucalyptus (essential oil) and leaning over the bowl with a hot towel covering my head and just breathing in deeply. It helps a lot. The nasal irrigation is very helpful too and an antibiotic should wipe out that infection.
I'm praying that you get some relief soon.

Praying for you to find relief soon. I suffer from migraines and found that taking Vitamin C and Vitamin B6 together helps, but it sounds like you found the answer. Hope the antibiotic works quickly.

Oh, Michele!
You poor thing....as a sufferer too, I know how awful. When I was pregnant with JP, I tried every homeopathic remedy possible -- but nothing beat claritin and ibuprofen (but you might be too far along for the ibuprofen?)....
Anyway, you are definitely in my prayers tonight....please keep us posted.
