Would you all please pray for dh's father? He found out today that he needs open heart surgery to replace a valve. Tomorrow they will do an angioplasty and the open heart surgery will follow as soon as possible after that.
This is his third open heart surgery. When dh and I married 13 years ago, my father-in-law had just been given an estimated 6 months to live due to heart problems. Obviously, he has been blessed with many years since then.
I am so sad for my husband and the timing of this. We are planning to induce our baby this coming Monday, Oct. 2 (Feast of the Guardian Angels!) if he or she does not make a natural appearance before that. What a stressful thing to have happen just as we welcome our new addition. (And frankly, with f-i-l's heart history and current age, I am more than a little afraid that we may be in mourning during our baby's first weeks.)

We learned that the angioplasty procedure today went well, but it sounds like the doctors are re-thinking the open heart surgery now. Dh's brother told him this evening that they now think it might be too "risky". I don't know if that means that he will simply have to live with the faulty valve until it gives out, or what. They will learn more tomorrow. Thanks so much for the prayers,everyone.

In fact, Sarah has her semi-annual heart check up tomorrow as a matter of fact........we will remember him tomorrow, easily!

Well, dh just learned that his father is out of the hospital and headed home until they can set an appt. to discuss all of this with the surgeon. They don't even know how soon that will be.
(It kind of makes you wonder how a surgeon can order someone to drop everything in order to have exploratory heart surgery the next day because everything is time sensitive . . . and then become completely unavailable to discuss the outcome and plans for the future in the days following the angioplasty.  )
Thanks so much for the prayers. I'm sure my f-i-l has been blessed abundantly because of them.

I'm bumping this up to update you all and ask for prayers again for my father-in-law. He is scheduled to have the open heart surgery next Monday, October 16. It is extremely risky. He's been told outright that he could die on the operating table. He's also been told that his time would be very limited if he opted to not proceed with the surgery. He asked the surgeon what he would choose for his own father, and the surgeon told him that he would take a chance on surgery. So that's what he's doing.
To complicate matters, he was admitted to the hospital a few days ago with chest pains. But after a few days of observation, he was discharged today. They are still set for the original surgery date.
Please pray for my f-i-l, the surgeon, and the rest of dh's family. And please pray for dh, who is so worried.
