My sister-in-law is taking her Clinical Skills test for MLE (Medical Licensure Examination) this morning at 8:00 in Philly. (We just got home from there and I'm groggy as I type this.) I'm asking for your prayers because the results of this test will determine whether she'll be able to find a good matching program here in the US. If she doesn't their contingency plan is for them to separate for a couple of years, with her going back home to the Philippines to do her residency and my brother going back home to my parents' in St. Louis -- they'll sell the house they're living in now and reunite *at some point*, somewhere. Needless to say, this worries my mom and me, but they haven't really asked for our advice and we don't want to give it if they're not asking for it. They'll be married a year October 8th.
Please pray that she does well on the test, that she is able to find a good match, and that they decide to stay together since there is no real need (at least IMHO) to separatem, esp. so early in their married life. And for the Holy Spirit's guidance in all their decisions. Thank you so much.

Stef,
I read this before we left for Mass this am and I prayed at Mass that she had passed...
I mentioned in a different thread I still have to pray my rosary tonight so I'll definitely include your intentions.

We never found out what the results were, but thanks for your prayers!
My mom just called a few minutes ago and told me that my brother called her last night saying his wife was leaving November 12. What pains my mom most (and me) is that she/we were never asked for advice or opinion. My dh and I can't imagine that there's anything good that can come out of a husband-and-wife separation -- unnecessary in our eyes -- but God apparently has allowed this to happen and we need to learn to trust that this is His will and He'll make things beautiful in His time. I'm just sad and depressed and disappointed about this whole thing. And hoping and praying they're not making the biggest mistake of their lives.

Stef, I'm so sorry. Separations can work, though. It's not a divorce, and even that isn't final. My parents had several separations, even a divorce, but still got back together.
I know you disapprove...and I know your family is very close. But marriage is a very personal thing, and it's hard to air all our dirty laundry especially in front of the family. Families are like elephants, they never forget. And they are the hardest ones to "prove" a change.
To make this announcement was probably extremely hard. If they do work it out, this episode will be in everyone's memory for a long time. Then there's the tensions while separated. I'd recommend that you not "choose sides" during all this, but be equally loving, friendly and generous to both. If you don't, there can be resentment that lingers when they get back together.
It's hard on everyone...prayers for your family, Stef.
